Los Angeles Rams Make Super Bowl Statement as Matthew Stafford and Davante Adams Destroy Giants

The Los Angeles Rams delivered an emphatic response to their disappointing season opener as Matthew Stafford and Davante Adams powered them to a 28-6 victory over the New York Giants.

After suffering a heavy defeat to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1, the Rams returned home and produced the kind of performance that immediately reignited expectations around Sean McVay's team.

Stafford threw four touchdown passes, Adams produced 195 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Aaron Donald made his long-awaited 2026 debut as the Rams dominated Monday Night Football.

The victory moved Los Angeles to 1-1 and provided a very different picture from the one seen in their opening game.

Matthew Stafford turns back the clock

Stafford was outstanding from the opening stages, completing 22 of 31 passes for 327 yards and four touchdowns.

His third touchdown of the night also carried historical significance.

The score moved Stafford to 426 career touchdown passes, taking him beyond Philip Rivers and into sixth place on the NFL's all-time list. He finished the night with 427.

It was precisely the response the Rams needed after Stafford struggled during their Week 1 loss.

Rather than allowing that performance to define the start of the season, the veteran quarterback controlled the game and repeatedly found ways to exploit the Giants secondary.

Davante Adams produces huge Rams debut at SoFi

Adams was equally influential.

With Puka Nacua unavailable because of a hip issue, the veteran receiver became Stafford's primary weapon and responded with eight catches for 195 yards and two touchdowns.

His numbers represented his best receiving performance since joining the Rams, while his 195 yards ranked as the fourth-highest single-game total of his 13-year career.

Adams opened the scoring with a 31-yard touchdown reception late in the first quarter before adding another score in the third.

His performance ensured the Giants could not afford to concentrate solely on stopping Stafford's passing game.

Aaron Donald makes his return

There was another major storyline for the Rams.

Aaron Donald returned to NFL action for the first time in 2026 and made an immediate impact against New York.

The defensive tackle recorded three tackles, including a tackle for loss, as Los Angeles limited the Giants to just six points.

His return added another layer to an already talented Rams defence, particularly alongside offseason arrival Trent McDuffie.

McDuffie recorded his first interception as a Ram and finished with four passes defended, a new single-game career high.

Giants suffer injury setbacks

The result was made even more difficult for New York by injuries.

Quarterback Jaxson Dart was forced out after suffering a knee injury on the Giants' opening drive and was replaced by Jameis Winston.

Wide receiver Malik Nabers also suffered a shoulder issue during the game but was able to return.

Andrew Thomas and Brian Burns were also dealing with injuries late in the contest.

Dart's injury is now an important concern for the Giants as they move towards Week 3.

Rams answer their critics

The Rams' opening-week defeat had raised immediate questions after expectations were high entering the season.

Their response could hardly have been more emphatic.

Los Angeles controlled the Giants from the first quarter onwards, combining Stafford's efficiency with Adams' explosive receiving performance and a defence that consistently restricted New York's offence.

The victory does not erase the Week 1 defeat, but it provides the Rams with a much-needed response and moves them back to 1-1.

For a team carrying genuine Super Bowl expectations, that reaction was significant.

Stafford is playing at an elite level, Adams has already shown the impact he can make in Los Angeles, and Donald's return gives McVay another major defensive weapon.

The Rams now have to prove they can produce this level of performance consistently.

But after a difficult opening week, Monday night's 28-6 demolition of the Giants was exactly the kind of statement Los Angeles needed.
