Justin Bieber and Harry Styles Emerge as Super Bowl Halftime Favorites — But There’s a Major Problem

According to TMZ, sources say both Bieber and Styles are high on Roc Nation's shortlist for the Super Bowl LXI halftime performance, with Jay-Z and Roc Nation playing a key role in selecting the eventual performer.

There is, however, a major twist.

Neither Bieber nor Styles has been approached about performing at the event yet, and TMZ's sources claim both singers would be unlikely to accept the offer if they are eventually contacted.

The possibility of either artist performing would represent a huge coup for the NFL.

Bieber remains one of the biggest names in global pop music, while Styles has established himself as one of the world's biggest solo stars following his time with One Direction.

TMZ reports that the two singers currently sit high on Roc Nation's wish list for the 2027 show.

But being on the wish list is a long way from securing a deal.

Sources say neither artist has even been approached at this stage, meaning the NFL and Roc Nation still have plenty of work to do before a halftime performer can be confirmed.

Why the decision matters

The halftime show is one of the biggest entertainment slots in the world, reaching a huge global audience and providing artists with enormous exposure.

The NFL does not pay halftime performers a traditional performance fee, but artists can benefit through increased streaming, sales and ticket demand — particularly when they have new music to promote.

That makes the reported reluctance of Bieber and Styles particularly significant.

Even with the exposure that comes with performing at the Super Bowl, TMZ's sources indicate that neither star is currently expected to jump at the opportunity.

Bieber already appeared at the World Cup

Bieber has already had a major football-related performance this year.

The Canadian singer was involved in the halftime show for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final earlier this summer, giving him another major global sporting event appearance ahead of the 2027 Super Bowl.

A Super Bowl performance would therefore put Bieber on another of America's biggest sporting stages within months.

Whether he wants to do it, however, remains a major question.

When will the Super Bowl performer be announced?

Super Bowl LXI is scheduled for February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

The NFL typically announces its halftime performer around late September, meaning an official decision could be approaching quickly.

That leaves a relatively short window for Roc Nation and the NFL to approach their preferred candidates, negotiate with them and ultimately secure a commitment.

The last Super Bowl held at SoFi Stadium featured a star-studded lineup including Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Eminem, 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar.

A shortlist is not a booking

For now, Bieber and Styles should not be described as confirmed performers — or even as having been formally offered the job.

The current picture is that both are reportedly high on Roc Nation's wish list, while neither has been approached and both are believed unlikely to accept if contacted.

That makes the next few weeks particularly interesting.

If either superstar changes their position, the 2027 Super Bowl halftime show could suddenly have one of the biggest pop-culture stories of the year.

For now, though, the NFL has two enormous names on its wish list and no deal with either one.
