Arsenal Receive Kai Havertz Injury Boost as David Ornstein Reveals Positive Update
Havertz lasted just 30 minutes of Germany's 1-1 draw in Amsterdam on Thursday before being replaced after appearing to suffer a hamstring problem.
The injury immediately raised concerns for Mikel Arteta, particularly with Havertz having started all five of Arsenal's Premier League matches this season.
But there is now a reason for the Gunners to feel more optimistic.
According to David Ornstein, there is early optimism that the injury suffered by Havertz is not serious. The Arsenal forward is leaving Germany's camp and will return to his club for further assessment and recovery.
Havertz leaves Germany camp
Havertz's night in Amsterdam ended after he received treatment on his hamstring before eventually being withdrawn.
Germany boss Jurgen Klopp was already preparing for life without the Arsenal forward for the remainder of the international break.
After the match, Klopp confirmed that Havertz and Jamal Musiala were undergoing MRI scans.
"The boys are probably out for us," Klopp said, while also expressing hope that both players would be available for their clubs again relatively quickly.
That means Havertz will not be involved when Germany face Greece on Sunday.
For Arsenal, however, the bigger concern is what the scan reveals and whether the forward will be fit when club football resumes.
Positive signs for Arsenal
The initial optimism surrounding Havertz will come as a relief to Arteta.
The German has been an important part of Arsenal's attacking plans at the beginning of the campaign, starting every Premier League match and scoring twice.
His availability has also been particularly significant because Arsenal are managing their attacking options around Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres.
A lengthy absence would therefore have forced Arteta to reassess his options in the centre-forward position.
At this stage, though, there is no indication that Havertz is facing a major lay-off.
The important point is that the injury has not yet been fully diagnosed, so Arsenal will still need to wait for the club's medical assessment before determining when he can return.
Arsenal must wait for the verdict
The timing of the injury is frustrating, but the international break gives Arsenal some breathing room.
The Gunners are not scheduled to return to Premier League action until 10 October, when they host Leeds United at the Emirates.
That gives Havertz time to recover if the problem proves to be a minor strain.
It also means Arsenal can avoid taking unnecessary risks with one of their most-used attacking players.
The immediate priority will therefore be the medical assessment rather than rushing towards a return date.
For now, Ornstein's update provides Arsenal supporters with the news they wanted after seeing Havertz leave the pitch in Amsterdam.
There is concern, there is still a scan to assess the problem, but there is also early optimism that the injury is not serious.
That is a considerably better position for Arsenal than the one they feared when Havertz went down in the first half.
