Manchester United launch €70m-plus bid for Brighton star Carlos Baleba

Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit of Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba after submitting an improved offer worth more than €70 million, with a further €6 million in potential add-ons, according to David Ornstein.

There is not yet an agreement between the two clubs, but United are expected to return with another proposal as they continue negotiations for the Cameroon international.

Baleba has reportedly been pushing for a move to Old Trafford since August 2025, and United's latest approach suggests the club are prepared to make a significant investment to bring the midfielder to Manchester.

The 22-year-old has emerged as one of Brighton's most highly rated players since arriving from Lille, attracting interest from several major clubs with his combination of physical strength, ball-winning ability and composure in possession.

For United, the move would represent another major step in their efforts to reshape the midfield. The club are looking for greater energy and athleticism in the centre of the pitch, and Baleba's profile fits the type of player they are seeking.

However, the latest bid is not enough to complete the transfer, with Brighton yet to agree to United's proposal. The Premier League clubs are expected to continue discussions, with another United offer likely to follow.

Baleba's long-standing desire to join United could prove significant as negotiations develop. The midfielder has reportedly maintained his interest in the move since last summer, and that stance could encourage the Red Devils as they attempt to reach an agreement with Brighton.

For now, though, there is still work to be done. United have made their intentions clear with a substantial opening proposal, but Brighton's response and the size of the next bid will determine whether the long-running pursuit finally reaches a breakthrough.
