Manchester United Forward Ethan Wheatley Agrees Move to Lincoln City
Manchester United forward Ethan Wheatley has agreed to join Lincoln City, bringing an end to the competition among several clubs for the young striker's signature.

The 20-year-old had attracted interest from a number of clubs this summer as Manchester United considered the next step in his development. Lincoln have now won the race for his services and are set to complete a deal for the academy graduate.

Wheatley spent much of last season gaining experience in the EFL, featuring for Northampton Town before moving to Bradford City in the second half of the campaign. He made 34 League One appearances across the two spells, scoring three goals and providing one assist.

His potential move to Lincoln represents another opportunity to establish himself in senior football after finding first-team opportunities at Old Trafford difficult to secure.

Wheatley became the 250th Manchester United academy graduate to make his senior debut when he appeared against Sheffield United in April 2024. He subsequently spent time on loan in the EFL as part of his development.

Lincoln had emerged as a strong contender for the striker in recent weeks. The Championship club's interest intensified after Everton, another club linked with Wheatley, reportedly withdrew from the race because of financial considerations and other transfer priorities.

The move will give Wheatley the chance to play regular senior football and continue his development away from the intense competition for places at Manchester United.

For Lincoln, the arrival of a forward developed at one of England's biggest clubs adds another attacking option as they continue strengthening their squad.

Wheatley's departure would also form part of Manchester United's ongoing efforts to make decisions on the futures of several academy players, with permanent transfers offering young talents an opportunity to continue their careers while potentially providing the club with future financial benefits.

With an agreement now reached, Wheatley is expected to complete the formalities of his move before beginning the next chapter of his career at Lincoln City.
