Makai Lemon’s Eagles Debut Had Everything: Three Catches, a Drop and a Crucial Lesson

Lemon made his first preseason appearance at Lincoln Financial Field after missing part of training camp with a hamstring injury.

Eagles Veterans Give Lemon a Simple Message

"Learn from it and forget about it," Lemon said of the advice given to him. "You can't beat yourself up about it. The next-play mentality, really. I appreciate the guys having my back. I'm real hard on myself. I'm a perfectionist. When things like that do come about, I just got to forget about it and move on."

That mentality could be particularly important for Lemon as he transitions to the NFL.

Mistakes are inevitable for young players, but the ability to respond immediately can be just as important as avoiding the original error.

Lemon Turns Attention to Week 1

With his hamstring issue behind him, Lemon now has preseason film to review as Philadelphia moves toward its regular-season opener.

The Eagles are scheduled to begin their campaign at home against the Washington Commanders on September 13.

For Lemon, the focus is now on using the remaining preparation time to eliminate the small errors that appeared against Cincinnati.

"I feel real prepared, but we still got some time," Lemon said. "I've got to lock in each week. Just cleaning up little mistakes, really."

The Bengals game may not have been the flawless introduction Lemon wanted, but it provided exactly what the preseason is designed to deliver: meaningful snaps, valuable experience and a clear list of areas to improve.

Now, the Eagles will find out how quickly their first-round pick can turn those lessons into progress when the regular season arrives.
