Julien Mette Reveals Why Tusker FC Beat Gor Mahia in FKF Super Cup
Tusker FC head coach Julien Mette has praised his players for producing a disciplined and mature performance as they defeated Gor Mahia 3-1 to win the FKF Super Cup.

The Brewers secured a convincing victory at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, August 24, with Francis Oduor, Eugene Ikutwa and Ian Simiyu getting on the scoresheet.

Ikutwa also scored an own goal that gave Gor Mahia a lifeline, but Tusker remained composed after the break to protect their advantage and secure the trophy.

The result provided Mette with an encouraging start ahead of the new season, particularly given the quality of the opposition.

Mette pleased with Tusker's performance

Mette highlighted the significance of defeating a Gor Mahia side that had recently reached the CECAFA Kagame Cup final.

The French tactician said the match provided a genuine competitive test for his players rather than simply serving as another pre-season exercise.

He was particularly impressed by Tusker's efficiency in front of goal, with the Brewers converting their opportunities while remaining organised when Gor Mahia increased the pressure.

Mette also praised his players for maintaining their composure throughout the different stages of the match, believing their tactical discipline and mentality played a major role in the victory.

“It’s a good start…it was a competitive game, not a friendly against the champions who were in the final of the CECAFA Kagame Cup. It was a tough game, and I think we deserved the win. We scored three good goals and managed them well when they came back. In terms of tactical, technical and mental, it was a good game from our side,” Julien Mette said.

New signings impress Mette

The Tusker coach also reserved praise for the club's new arrivals, revealing that the signings have adapted well since joining the squad.

According to Mette, the newcomers have settled quickly and shown a willingness to understand the team's expectations and tactical demands.

Their smooth integration has strengthened competition within the squad while giving the coaching staff more options ahead of the new FKF Premier League campaign.

The victory over Gor Mahia will therefore provide Tusker with significant confidence heading into the new season. Mette will hope the Brewers can build on the performance and carry the same discipline, efficiency and mentality into their league campaign.

For Tusker, lifting the FKF Super Cup offers an early indication of their ambitions, while Mette's side will now look to turn their impressive start into sustained success when competitive league football begins.
